[Black Cochin Bantams]

I'm hoping to get started breeding show quality mottled cochins as I think they are very striking birds. I'd like to raise black, blue and splash mottled. Does anyone have suggestions for who I could acquire some from? I would like to purchase hatching eggs if at all possible, rather than adult birds or chicks.

You can buy eggs if you want but I don't know of the people with the best birds that sell eggs. Also unless lucky the hatch rates are very poor. Even if birds are AI'd they won't all be fertile. Then unless you can buy local they get rough handleing, overheated and or chilled. I really recommend buying a pair or trio and be the breeder.

We are new to chickens on the whole but recently expanded our flock with bantam calico Cochins. Being new I'm not sure if this is a recognized color or not. We have a Black Copper Maran, RIR, blue laced red Wyandotte, 2 sexlinks, blue Americana, 1 rust colored still to be identified and 5 bantam calico Cochins. We started with just one Cochin but fell in love with their sweet temperament. I'd like to learn more about them and welcome any suggested websites or books.

"Calico" is not a recognized color variety in any breed, including Cochins.

long story short seller in one post says they don't raise mixes but proceeds to say on another post that all they raise is mixes in both rabbits and chickens....so is this what they say it is?? there are no pics of the legs though

Casey, I don't know much about the calender, except that Linda is putting one together, and plans to have it available for the fall shows. There was more posted on the CI Forum and Website back in July. The submission deadline has passed - I believe she has what she needs regarding photos.

Thanks Craig and Gail. I got a newsletter last week and it mentioned the calender, but didnt know if anyone had heard anything further. I sent in a few pics, and a link to many of my pics and told her to use what she wanted, if any at all. Would just really like a Cochin calender.

Hey all, what could i expect if i cross my self blue rooster with my two white hens and my two black hens? Would i get 25% self blue, 25% white/black, ans 50% "mixed"?
