Are bantam Cochins hard to breed? I have had several hens and Roos for fun and show but have never breed them.

if you let them, they'll do all the work LOL. depending how heavy the fluff is around their vents, it might need trimming to get fertility up, but otherwise IMO they're an easy breed to have.

I dont trim or pluck any feathers on my birds (unless they get poo stuck to them, but thats a different subject), they breed naturally and I have good hatches. They arent hard to breed and raise, the chicks are pretty hardy little guys, and by 8-10 weeks they usually get accustomed to you being around and handling them and they will soon become pets, lol. With food and water, they are a pretty self reliant breed, but they do tend to be more docile than other breeds, sometimes asking for attention.

I have some I let breed naturally, some that I pluck and let breed naturally, and some that I AI. If you want to show them then they can not be bred naturaly as feathers are damaged in the breeding process. If I do not get involved my Blacks will not have fertile eggs unless they are laying during molt. I threw away 18 dud Black eggs last week. It depends on the quality of the birds. The better the bird the more you need to be involved is my experience.

Hoping to get a critique for my little lady here. I hatched her from eggs purchased on ebay this spring. She just turned 6 months old today and is the only one of my current cochins I am considering keeping since I'd like to concentrate on mottled. I have 6 mottled cochin eggs due to hatch the end of the month from Amy @ West Knoll Farm. Do you think she is worth keeping, and would you consider her pet, breeder or show quality and why? I welcome your advice!

I am a LF person, but I believe she is narrow in the cushion. Maybe breeder quality if you have a cock theat is exceptional in that area.
