Cochin Thread!!!

God but your BC are gorgeous! I wish I could have kept up with them.
I was talking to Annamay the other day and complaining that I've never been able to correctly breed my gorgeous Birchen/Mottled hen from Jamie Matts. I've tried her with Mottled and Birchen and the color is never good. She suggested that I breed her to one of Mandy's Golden Laced roos and that is the path to true Mille Fleur. Since seeing Annamay's Mille Fleur it is seriously tempting to try, but I've been trying to reduce my numbers and varieties, not take on more. Oh what a dilemma, anything Annamay suggests is so tempting, she is such a font of information.
By the way, did you know she is coming to Columbus and will be staying with Mandy and me at the Hilton Gardens - the "headquarters" for the cochins. I assume that is where you will be. This is the most fun about showing, the kibitzing and togetherness of everyone. I could talk chickens 24 hours a day.

Yes Craig does have some beautiful Buff Columbians! .

Wish I could go to the show in Ohio! If I didn't have a vacation planned for next month on my birthday I would go. Oh well, there are other shows.

I will be next door at the Comfort Inn Saturday evening. I am driving in to arrive Sat AM.. I am only bringing 9 to show maybe less. I knew Annamay was coming to Columbus but not showing.. She feeds enough Cochins to go through a ton of feed a month. I am bringing 1 Buff Columbian to Columbus but I think she is about to fall apart. The pullet in the top picture.
Well rats! Annamay is coming in on Thursday evening and leaving on Sat. I can't get up there on Thursday but we're going up earlier on Friday so we'll have more time to chat and pick each others brains. I'm not sure what time she's leaving on Sat, but hopefully it will be later in the morning or early afternoon.
I hope your hen holds together, she should do something good if she does, she is SO beautiful.

Congratulations to Edison Cigany and John Burgess, they both had Grand Champion Bantams at the Maryland State Poultry Associations Show. Which was also the Cochin Eastern National show.

Coopacabana donated a Bantam standard as a prize for the Jr's at Eastern Nationals. What a great way to encourage the youth! Thanks so much.

It is so wonderful to see the kids involved in the chickens. I believe it teaches them a sense of responsibility, caring and self confidence. I also believe it helps them to develop a healthy level of competitiveness, and how to learn from their losses and be gracious about it at the same time.

There is a show at Iowa City Thanksgiving weekend. Birds can check in Friday with Show on Saturday and auction Sunday AM followed by coop out. 20 miles from my home. We usually have 1500+ birds exhibited.
