Cochin Thread!!!

Guess what I got tonight? Bantam Cochins! It was a unexpected thing. I got 4, and I was told they are buff. They are from Duane Urch.

They are the light colored ones in the front.

I posted a couple days ago about my girl Vera...a thought just occurred to me to ask you guys about this funny thing she does: when I come near her to pet her, she squats down like she's ready to mate. When I bend down to stroke her back, she gets really into it and makes these silly grunting sounds. Do anyone else's birds do that??

I have a barred rock hen that does that too. Don't know why though?

Awww , i love the little guys. I just set 14 bantam cochins in the bator on Thursday, 21 now seems like a long way off LOL. Have fun with your new babies!

lilcrow- Do you use ivermectin for internal parasites ? How do you administer it ? I have bantam cochins & a mixed flock of LF. I've never wormed, is it a necessity ?
Yes, I use ivermectin, but I also alternate products. So far my birds don't appear to have developed a tolerance to the ivermectin but I think they easily could if that was the only thing I used.
There is also a product called Worminator that I get from Twin City Poultry Supply, http://www.twincitypoultrysupplies.com/ Victor (owner of Twin City) says that it will kill just about any worm there is, I'm not sure about Tape worm though.

Yay, the f1 from my partridge project. Trying to improve type by crossing to good typed black for the f1, as i have only 1 female partridge with good type. Here is the little fella
