Cochin Thread!!!

It was there and then it said no image so I went back on and put link. I don't know why my images not working.
So I could actually put both of the girls with my mottled/mille or my calico, right?
Try pic again.

genetically mille fleur and calico are the same. just a difference in how the markings are displayed. mille fleur = columbian and mottled. so mottled with mille will give you some mottled next generation and mille the following one.

OMG this is why I have already named my little cockerel Napoleon he has already bitten me twice because I got too close to his hens!!! He has been trying to take on my huge Cochin rooster on one side of the fence and a huge Orp hen on the other. This little guy has more testosterone than all my roos put together!! None of my roos have been quite this aggressive when let out of the box. I have already had to put up a solid barrier between him and my rooster pen. At first I was afraid my big roos would hurt them now I am worried Napolean will hurt not only them but himself in the process.

I don't think I will ever feel comfortable with putting the Bantams in with my LFs.
This is not standard, desirable behavior in a Cochin. I would not want to reproduce that behavior.

I was wondering if someone can tell me which bantam cochins to pair together or what I can mix. I have just separated some of my hens because I read to keep them from other roosters for 3-4 weeks so you don't get the other roosters eggs. Here's what I ended up with in last years hatchings or so the eggs said.
Roosters:
Splash
Partridge
Mottled/Mille
Calico/Mille
Silver Laced
Blue Columbian

Hens:
Splash
2 - Mottled (but barely any white on them less than the Mille that looks mottled that I have pictured)
Mille (but looks mottled to me)
Silver Laced
White (but see a speck of gray on couple feathers)
Lavendar
Buff Columbian (loot calico to me)

Mille to left but looks mottled to me, my 2 mottles have less white than this one and only by feet. To the right was labeled buff columbian but she looks calico??

I'm going to assume you have hatchery stock, so I would say breed them any way you would like to. You will not get any accepted colors unless you breed like to like, but if that is not a goal don't worry about it.

Ok so who else's Cochin Roos are super fast? I mean I let my new roo out of the garage for some yard time and he flew across the yard so **** fast I was shocked...

I didn't even see his little feet moving under all his fluff...it looked surreal...for real!

But can I just say...I am in love with the bantam Cochins...and the boys are just beautiful...please don't tell my silkies...sorry guys!

Well at first I think it is just because I am new to him. He did it a few times and once I layed down the law he seemed to smarten up. I would not breed anything aggressive to me or other chickens no matter the size. I had 4 gold/silver laced Cochins I was considering breeding but I ended up selling them as they were just to aggressive to everyone. I had a dog once who liked the taste of fresh lamb a little too much he was gone in a blink of an eye. Aggressiveness in any animal is not acceptable here. He does not fly at me, he just bit me twice when I let him out of the box, then another time when I held him. I held his head for a few seconds and he seemed to get the point he didn't do it again. I really do think it is because things here are all so new and he was trying to protect his hens.

Hi everyone! I would like some opinions on my buff Cochin Bantams I got from Urch/Turnland poultry. Gender would be helpful as well, but it's looking like they are all cockerels. :/ They turned 5 weeks on Monday.

Cockerel (?) #1

Lighting was different in this picture:

Cockerel #2

I had a picture of his head, but he would NOT coroporate so it turned out blurry.

Cockerel (Or maybe this is my pullet)? #3

Weird lighting in this picture, but it really shows his/her head.

Sorry for the dirty foot feathers. The reason I took pictures of those is because on #1, I think it was, had feathering on the smallest toe. Is this a major defect in a Cochin? I'm hoping to start breeding Cochins with these guys, if they turn out decent enough. Thanks for any help.

Keeping birds can be so heartbreaking -
I lost my Blue Mottled hen. She was fine one Monday but dead Tuesday morning.
I have got to change my avitar pic because I can't bear to look at pictures of her right now.
