It really depends if they are related. Vulture hawks is hereditary.

I asume they are related. There were 9 white LF chicks, all the same size, in the box. My friend isn't keeping them to breed for show. I think I may just keep one with vulture hock just for a pet. They are all so sweet, mellow and curious. They walk right under my dog.

Is this vulture hock?
I bought 9 LF chicks at an auction, raising them for a friend. A couple of them have these feathers that are under their wings and leading back from their legs.

How stiff are the feathers? It depends on a few things put together to actually make them vulture hocks.

Also, how old? Some birds look like they have vulture hocks at a certain age, but eventually they grow into them. As mentioned, if they are stiff like a D'Uccle's then they are vulture hocks.

Hello Cochin Thread!!! I have LF Black/Blue/Splash, and starting a flock of bantam Mottled for my DD's 4-H projects. I of course love them too! If someone could direct me to some eggs I would appreciate it. I don't care if there is a waiting list, I will wait If no eggs are available, I would love to order chicks. Some people don't like to sell eggs, or chicks, so I would also consider started birds. Any help would be appreciated, you can PM me with details/pics/your availability etc......Thanks!

This picture above is from November of 2011 at the CI Western National at Iowa City of the Buff Columbian that was Reserve of Breed at the Central Florida Poultry Breeders Association show Feb 23, 2013. He looks even better now than he did then. I guess with patterned birds we have to keep them long enough to really reach their potential. They will already be showing type at a young age but these pictures sure revealed how at least one bird can mature into something better. This was a first for me to place a patterned bird higher than a Best of Variety designation. Picture below is of him now about 14+ months later.


Thanks to Jacki Jordan (Mystic Farms) for taking this picture for me at the show. My Camera died at the show when it got covered in VetRx (my fault). I know it is time to get a camera that is at least this good now that I am in the market for a new camera.
