Cochin Thread!!!

Hi all. Well our eggs are starting to hatch here. Our first egg to hatch was a cochin, unfortunately the egg was collected by someone less obsessed than I with who it came from. LOL, she wrote "Orp or Cochin" on it at least(not that we have any other breed that lays fertile eggs the same color). There is definitely a size difference now that it is out of the incubator, but it wasnt so easy to tell while it was in lock down. The other Cochins that have hatched had the roosters initial on the egg, but this little one....

Since I dont know who he came from I have no idea what the possibilities are for color. He is yellow with lite wild type or chipmunk markings in black. Anyone with more experience have any ideas? I know the possibilities are probably endless, just wondering if others have seen chicks that look like this out of known varieties or familiar projects?
Here you can see him from above.

I love the genetics, but still have lots to learn. LOL, last spring we got this guy.

Who looks like this now....

So life can be full of surprises, lol, genetic surprises!
Thanks!

My very first EVER bantam cochins.

What color will they be?

White which have the silver gene (believed to be the whitest, whites) can also be this color as chicks.....please don't make me go to the barn to take a picture of a day old white cochin to prove it....lol

Well, I'm going to guess that you do have d'Uccle since you got them from TSC. As fluffy puffy said d'Uccle are very sweet so I don't think you'll be sorry that you have them. They are normally almost as sweet as Cochins, but not as good at brooding. I'll guess either Lavender or Porcelain so be sure and post pics in a month or so.

Wow, Gail. My Ameraucana's is much bigger than that right now and I am afraid to pull them off. I know they are causing some issues with the girls and I should, though. Did you just use pliers and do the twist n pull method?

Yes - Pliers, twist and pull. I made sure I had sugar and stypic powder on hand. I Googled as much as I could first, so that I'd know what to expect.
