Cochin Thread!!!

Howdy! I have my first buff cochin (at least that's what I've been assuming it is all this time). She is 13 weeks old now. I took this picture today and would love a little feedback. Bought her from a bin at the local farm store, so I know she isn't show quality... (She won't be loved any less because of it though!) I don't know if I will ever get into breeding or showing, but I do want to increase my knowledge. From reading many posts in this thread, I'm guessing that she should have more feathers on her toes. Should she be lighter in color? What is ideal eye color etc? Thanks!
She is way redder than my buff cochin but then maybe mine is too light! I have read there should be good feathering on two toes. Is it my imagination or does she have little ear muff feathers? The light feathers with the darker outlines on the chest are pretty. Dont know if that is good or not but it is for sure pretty. :D Do you have any side photos? Now mind I know very little. Trying to increase my knowledge pretty much same as you :D

I hate to keep posting questions on here, I tried to post under the raising chicks forum but didnt get much help. I have a 2 day old cochin that seems to have something odd going on with her feet. I don't remember this with my other Cochins but I purchased them at 3 days old .
Anyways here's a pic

See how the 3rd tow is a dark color and is very small. It's so small you can't see it while the bird is standing up

I'm not taking about the back 4th toe but the 3rd one that is usually visible from above.
Anyone have any idea why this is like this? Will she be ok?

Foot/toe issues are not uncommon. They are likely a genetic issue although I read somewhere that it may be caused by incubation temperature too high. I have a bantam Cochin with fused middle and third toe but he gets along just fine.

For comparison purposes. Mine is a hatchery cochin and is younger so just keep that in mind. The color is much lighter. I dont think mine has a lot of feathering on the middle toe. The biggest difference I see is in the color. What do you think?

Wow, yeah, even when my "Cookie" was younger, she was nowhere near that light! Here she was when she still had some lil' chicklet feathers left. I guess her fuzz was that blond/buff but I'm realizing she's closer to red than buff now.

Hmm, did this picture come through? Only shows when I click on it... And by the way Anne, your lil baby is just precious!

honestly? I think she may be a he... the comb and wattles are too red to be a 3 month old baby. in which case, I think the buff roos are darker than the girls...

Is there a thread about the genetics of the barred cochin? We have two that we were sold as black but they have the barring, and are gorgeous. I am planning to breed them and want to find out more about their genetics. (I tried to look up some information but after 3 hours of reading I'm still lost!)
On another note - we have 4 blue cochin, 3 black, two barred cochin, and one that can't seem to make up her mind if she is back or blue. Also have a black banty cochin roo and a blue banty cochin roo. Love 'em all! Will get some pics soon!
