Cochin Thread!!!

Could anyone tell me the highest I can put a roost for bantam cochins? I currently have my roosts in a step setup, the lowest about 18" from the floor but I would like to switch to a single perch all the way across the 8' coop with a poop board under. I would like to put it as high as possible, but still be able to make the jump.

You can always put it as high as you want but have little platforms that they can fly to to get there. They love being up high!

The black roo is round with a cushion tail and feathered feet/ legs. He has a wierd comb though so I am guessing that both roos are not purebred. I don't mind with Al, the blue as I haven't gotten attached... But Capone the black one is my baby. He climbs my leg til I pick him up and just about purrs when petted. I just don't have room to keep two extra roos if I am not going to breed them :( I already have an OEGB trio of two roosand a hen to find homes for, since we aren't planning to breed them either.

Now he could have gotten his comb cut. That happened to my hen when she got caught in the fence and it healed up but left it hanging.

His comb has always had the floppy bit, as far as I can remember. He was in a pen with three hens that got taken by a predator but he wasn't injured (and the pens have been fortified to keep 'em all safe!) and hasn't been hurt that we know of.

His comb looks more like an injury to me, not a defect. Perhaps he got in a fight with another roo?

The only other roo near him is Al, and they don't fight. He's never been in a pen with anyone other than Pretty Girl and Al, other than the ones we lost to coons. He was only about six or 8 weeks at the time. As I said, he was uninjured that evening. We checked the survivors carefully. There is no scabbing or scars on it. Will try to get a closeup pic of it.

Here is a picture of my first ever cochin, I took this pic last year before she was laying eggs. She was having a blast outside!

Hi everyone! I ordered these frizzled Cochin eggs, 12 out of 18 have hatched so far. Couple more working on it.
I'm not sure if they came out of a pen with mixed colors as the eggs were not marked. What I wanted to ask was if any of these chicks look like specific colors? Or did I just get a bunch of mystery colors?

I'd be ok with that, I just wanted some for pets, that's it.

This one looks a bit darker in the picture. It's not quite as dark brown.

Could this be a splash? There are two of these and two that are even lighter. The lighter ones remind me of self-blues?
