Cochin Thread!!!

These two were a surprise with my other chicks... they are 13 weeks old.
I am assuming one is a Buff Brahma and the other is a Bantam Cochin.

Can anyone give me an idea about their sex?

I'm so excited. I got a barred roo, a barred hen and two buff hens from Tom Roebuck a couple of months ago or a little less. They are older (semi-retirees) so getting some eggs has been slow. At first the eggs weren't fertile. I trimmed them up a bit and fixed that problem. Then some more eggs were early quitters. Finally, yesterday .... I got this gorgeous little chick. All I know is that his Dad is barred and Mom either buff or barred. Can't wait to watch him/her grow.

Congratulations! There's no question about the quality of type you'll get. If they are from "retired" breeders of Tom's that says a LOT!

ok while i'm at it... I have a question about this little guy...

when I took the pic (day old) I thought maybe he just had his eye closed... then I realized that he appears to have been born blind.

anyone have any experience with raising blind chicks? he finds the food just fine, but I have to show him the water a few times a day.

hoping once he gets a bit bigger he'll figure it out on his own.

any thoughts on this guy? (he's also unknown color at the moment, still)
I had one like this no noticeable slim on his head but the sticky stuff that crust up got on or in his eye. at first i thought he was dehydrated so i would give him water. Turned out mine needed a wet cotton ball to clean his eye off. I whipped it clean and the eye lid opened after that it took the rest of the day but by the next day it had both eyes open. I really looks like yours has the slimy stuff on its eye.

I have a one yr old BBS Cochin Bantam. The family enjoys her so much. We hand raised her and she is super friendly. So, we hatched 6 Silver Laced Cochin bantams and 3 buff and 1 blue standard Cochins. Along with some mixes. They are the sweetest things. I'm going to have to part with some of them but we aren't sure which ones. We love them all.

Some better pics of my cochin babies :) DH let me use his phone with a better camera LOL
One of our barred, and two of the blues. (Barred is named Friendly, two blues are Stilton and Gorgonzola LOL)

My oldest with his black cochin, Penguin.

My youngest with his gold laced, Goldiflocks.

One of our blues, Roquefort.

Okay guys I need some assistance. My teenage neighbor boy is wanting to sell me his LF Blue Cochin flock Which consist of 1 blue roo, 2 blue hens and 1 black hen. I haven't went to look at them yet, but I imagine that they are hatchery stock that are 1 year old. How much should I be expecting to pay?

i have a bantam cochin and her face is crusty
her skin is very dry and cracks
does any one else know what this is or means
also how do you keep those fluffy butts clean
hers is not very clean

Quote: that's what I thought too, but there actually was no eye on either side. just closed lids... and nature took it's course yesterday after all, even with assistance. chances are something else was going on too.
