Cochin Thread!!!

Any interest in this guy? I need to sell him. He is a blue mottled cock bird. He has nice type but not enough mottling and now he has gold/rust in his hackles. It wasn't this bad until after he'd been out in the sun a lot. :/ I am taking offers, can ship in Sept. when it cools down.

ok well I managed to snap a couple more pics today...

wondering if anyone's encountered 'sun bleaching' of their birds... here's a pic of my blue mottled guy, today and the day I got him for comparison. yes he REALLY is a blue. LOL

one thing I have noticed, free ranging seems to have improved his wing carriage... he's actually a pretty good flyer (if you count downhill gliding 'flying' LOL)

and then a pic of a couple of my red chicklets. the cockerel and one of the pullets. and another overhead view of the cockerel... they just turned 4 months old and still have some filling in to do. think there's any hope for type or is it too soon to ask?

Not so sure about type on those chicklets, but I sure do love that dark red color !!!!!

Really like that colour! i assume your reds carry Mahogany?

How do you keep Cochins feet nice and pretty
lol I don't. if you look at the blue mottled roo 'before' pic he's got nice fluffy feet... the after, most of the feathers are broken off...

if I were showing i'd probably keep them on shavings, but free ranging, they're on dirt, grass, mud, leaves, whatever.

Quote: well a few of the pullets have better type than the one I managed to catch on film. an they're still young so I can hope everything improves. worst case I can always outcross to something else to improve type, but i'd rather not.

Quote: yes, they do...
