I am definitely learning a lot with the Golden Laced. The most important - have PATIENCE with the lacing. This is Calypso's sister Goldilocks:

Taken last month at 3 months old:

And taken this morning at 4 months old:

You can see that Goldilocks has a touch of white on her feet - just like her brother. Sure hope it goes away!

Can ya'll tell I was busy taking my monthly pics this morning!!!

Anyway, this is Indigo. She's also almost 4 months old now. She is 1/2 sister to Calypso and Goldilocks - my GL roo Midas is the sire of all three. But Indigo's dam is my Splash hen, ChaCha. Indigo is one of the 4 pullets I have retained as F1's in my Blue Laced Red project. So she is (B/B/S) Blue, split to Golden Laced. When of age, Indigo and her sisters will be bred back to their sire, which will be my F2 generation. I've had so many PM's about my BLR project - mostly wanting to know if I am using any Wyandottes or Rhode Island Reds. The answer is NO!!! My project is 100% Bantam Cochin, and always will be. The sire, Midas, is showing a very strong phenotype for carrying the Mahogany gene (you can also see the red in Calypso), so I'm hoping the red will display nicely in future generations as the lacing appears.

We were there today at the Portage show- both my DD(10) and DS(8) were showing. They had 4 out of the 5 Partridge Cochin Bantams there-each entered a pullet and cockeral- DD's cockeral received a 1st and her pullet received 2nd RV

DS's cockeral received 3rd and his pullet received 1st BV

They also each entered a Blue Andalusian pullet- DD's received 1st BV and BB and DS's received 2nd RV and RB

We didn't stay all day, we checked the birds in and then went home( we live about 40 minutes away) to work on our new coop, we went back in time to watch them hand out the junior awards-nice to watch since this is their first show.

Thank you so much for thinking of me!! I'm FINALLY going to get my White Cochins from Mark aka USSChicago. I'm so excited! Now I just have to try to replace my bantam GLC's that my husband's dog killed over a year ago and I'll be happy. They're the other thorn in my side.

I've never been to a show but hopefully next year. I had a lot of health problems this year, next year will be better!

We'd love to see pics if you have any.

I just wanted to share the youngest member of the family. This little Black Mottled Cochin hatched 3 days ago. It has 2 guinea keets as its roommate. Its so tiny and sweet. Now everyone cross your fingers that its a pullet! I have cockerals coming out of my ears! LOL

Cute chick Laurie. Looks just like my chicks did. I will have to get some updated pictures the ones I posted at 5-6 months old are outdated, I looked at them today and the big white spots in the front are disappearing like I hoped. They are starting to show more mottling all over. I will get some updated pictures when the rain stops here.
