to me, they all look like blues. my blacks are always a nice deep black with white/yellow bellies.Hi folks!I usually don't post pix on the forums, but I am curious and would like to know something from you experts. I have a pen of young cochins I had hoped to separate and create pairs. I have been looking for a lavender hen/pullet so I had left them all together for now. I started getting eggs and just thought I would test them to see what I got. I have a Lavender Rooster and a Black Mottled hen that are pretty attached to each other and the same age (7 months or so) I also have a Blue Frizzle Roo that is younger and a black pullet that is even younger. I knew if the Lavender/black pair crossed, I "should" get black chicks-split to lavender and mottled. But.........................isn't there always a but in there somewhere? I got my first test hatch on Saturday of 4 cute as a button chicks.![]()
My question is....could that little one in the back left be blue?? The shot really doesn't do it justice. It is much lighter and has tons of yellow compared to the other three. I would love to get a blue from the frizzle boy. The goal was to put him and my hens together and get blue/black chicks. I wanted to find a lavender hen for my lavender roo and pair them off, but I haven't had any luck at all finding any much less a hen. So you guys tell me. This is my first batch of Cochins and I was pleased with a 4/4 hatch rate. I just would like to know what to look for in the chicks to know which is which or are all these black?
middle chick here
Anyway, please forgive my rookie questions, and thank you for your time and advice.
