I think someone wants to go broody!!!! I put some of my laying hens eggs in there to get her started back laying after her molt but now she's wanting to go broody, I think. Haha! If she does go broody I'm going to get her some serama eggs.

looks just like mine I love her she is 7 months old and still no eggs I talked to the breeder and she said some of hers have taken 11 month to lay ugh

I lost my black pullet from Jamie Matts yesterday. She wasn't even a year old. I didn't get a single egg from her, either. No idea what exactly happened. She lost all her weight and got weak two weeks ago. She started walking and eating really well again and was looking perkier this last week after supplementing with vitamins and more protien. I don't know. Both this pullet and the cockerel from Jamie came to me sick. The pullet's ear infection cleared up after over a month fighting with it, but the cockerel still has a sneeze from his upper respiratory infection he had. I hate to sound greedy, but what a waste of $50 and a 3hr drive. Especially when I had to save for awhile to get her and the cockerel. Thankfully the cockerel isn't contagious and is still part of my breeding plans.

So, I am back to only BQ hens. I am hoping to get something nice from the chicks I hatched this year. I can't tell because someone keeps eating everyone's tails!

Here are some pics. First one is from April, the day after they came home - in quarantine. She's not in a very flattering position... You can see her ear is swollen and crusty. The 2nd pic is of her (left) and another pullet I got at York about a month or so after I got them. She still had the ear infection but looked better after weeks of hydrogen peroxide flushes and cleanings everyday.

This last week I finally figured out which bird was pecking the tails on the young birds and all the frizzles. He was removed from the flock instantly.. I know how frustrating it is and hope you can figure it out soon.

I had a serious overcrowding issue in my large pen out back. It was fine up until they were about 10-12wks old. Over the last 2 months I have slowly sold most of the birds in there and/or built pens in my 12x24 shed for the others. I think my main tail eater is one of my MFCs in one of the breeding cages in the shed now.

It looks like I have 3 pullets in the back pen with some promise. They are 5-7 months old now, so tails are really mandatory for selection at this point, lol!

Oh yes, since I didn't share.... The new pens in the shed:
I am building 2 more pens on the other side of the shed. Looks like I can get a 4x6 and a 4x5 over there.


And with birds in them:

US SOP Bantam Orps. I have a 100% English black bantam Orp I hatched from TKay's eggs to put over these girls. He suffered a hock injury a while a go, though. The swelling is gone but he still favors it. I'm not so sure I'll be able to use him.


BC looking MFCs (Father was MFC x BC and mother is my black tailed buff looking girl).
I need to sort the girls and cull the youngest cockerel. I never checked the girls to see if they all had their 3rd toe. The cockerel I know does not. Their dad threw 3rd toeless babies.


My Tom Roebuck black with my chocolate Orps. Finally, the project I started accumulating birds for last year is underway.

I have three standard/full size Cochins I would like to re home if anyone knows of someone who would be interested.They are May babies,all pullets.Very fluffy soft feathers.Two black,one blue.
I live in Idaho Falls. I like my bantams. My mom gave me these guys when she moved to Montana a month ago, I just dont like them, there is nothing wrong with them. They are curious, healthy, and come when I call the other chickens.
