Cochin Thread!!!

Cochin? Bought her straight run bantam at a local feed store. On the guess the breed thread they assumed Cochin. She's got the super sweet disposition, but lays white eggs...any ideas?? Thanks!!!

If it has feathered legs it looks like it is a Cochin. I have Cochin bantams that lay white eggs all the way to light brown. None of mine lay a dark brown egg.

My pair of bantam Blacks arrived from Jamie Matts today and appear to be doing well.

Hope you have better luck than I did and the other 3 people that have had issues with his birds.
The birds appear healthy and Jamie is a well though of member of the Cochin community. He has welcomed my questions and been friendly and helpful throughout. I don't know what issue you had and don't want to know, but I would be careful not to slander a respected member of the poultry world on a public forum.

Congratulations on your new pair dak!

Not for nothing, I have to say, Several of my LF foundation stock came from Jamie along the way. He has always answered my questions and inquiries candidly and with much detail. He has in all ways been a great breeder, mentor and teacher.

Did you at any time contact Jamie and let him know that you were displeased with the birds. I couldn't agree more with dak about talking negatively about judge, and officer of the main Cochin club. I'm not saying that you can't have a complaint, but if you have any plans of showing or being part of the Cochin community you most certainly need to be handling this in a more discrete, direct manner.

I have to say that the little cockerel has already impressed me with his temperament. I gave them a bowl of scrambled eggs and immediately called the pullet over and kept talking to her as she ate. What a little gentleman. My son has already claimed them as his. A little easier for him to hold than the LF.

Funny, it isn't slander when it's the truth. I am not the only one that had sick birds come form him. Me and two others that bought from him at the York, PA show in April ended up with sick birds. A 4th person just messaged me about how their shipped birds came sick. I wasn't being rude, I was just hoping you got better and healthier birds than us. Basically, I'd keep and eye on them just in case. Honestly, though, I don't care if it upsets you if I care a bit more about your birds health (just bought and previously owned) more than Jamie's "good" name. I'm not afraid to speak up and warn a person so a person knows to keep and eye out and IF something shows up, they don't lose their entire flock.

Talk about gratitude. You're welcome though.

ETA: Yes, I did contact him. He apologized and that's it.
