Cochin Thread!!!

well, an update on "Lucky"... his balance is shot. he can get around some but front to back, he teeters, so is tending to back himself into the corner of his tote. he's got water and food (fermented with some scratch and crumbles sprinkled on it - not sure what they were getting before, but they'll learn fermented feed soon enough LOL) I don't want to force him to eat or drink anything but I did use the dripping finger method to get a few drops in him... he's alert and talkative when he sees us, so i'm thinking that's a good thing. so we'll see how much damage there was in the next few days i'm sure. but at least I've given him a fighting chance.

I wish you all the best with him, and as you have said i think you have done all you can. Good luck and keeping my fingers crossed.

I was collecting eggs today and Luna a bantam cochin, made a nest near them and started to sit on them. She pecked my hand when I tried to grab them.

I came back later and she had left.

Then later, when everyone was roosting, she was covering two golf balls in the nesting box, although wasn't pecking or otherwise having signs of broodiness.

And there is seriously massive chicken poop out there.

Hmmm...

ETA: there where maybe a dozen eggs, way more then she could cover. Maybe is this why she got off?

She looks young, probably just deciding on where she would like to start laying.

Here's my 6 cochin bantams that have hatched so far. I have two more on the way. I have 24 OEGBs and 4 EEs in a brooder. I seem to have 3 blacks and 3 mottles so far. They came from a mottleXblack hen and a black rooster.
