These are my beautiful little blue Cochins I got from a lady on Craigslist. I'm so excited. They are by far my favorite chickens ever!

Vulture hocks? I know they are a DQ but can you breed birds with them?

Yes you can but you'll just produce more birds that will be diaqualified. There is never a good reason for using a bird with a disqualification as a breeder. [the only exception would be an undubbed game male]

I was talking with the President of the ABA about Vulture hocks in Cochins last fall. He told me he had only seen 1 or 2 birds with ture vulture hocks in many years of showing and judging .

Birds that show some stiffness in the hocks but have them curve rather than straight and stiff do not have vulture hocks is my understanding. Birds need some stiffness or they can't show shape. At times during molt hocks will be stiff due having the sheath of the feather protecting the feather.

I would NEVER breed a Cochin if it truly has Vulture hocks. Wasting myr time and money. Cheaper to buy a decent one in my opinion.
