Cochin Thread!!!

.

A Bantam Black Cochin hen bred, raised and shown by Tom Roebuck  won Grand Champion of the Show at the 2013 APA National Show/ NE Poultry Congress last weekend. Congratulations Tom. I know a few of us know Tom and are proud of his accomplishment.

Outstanding. I live not too far from him and have 4 of his LF Cochins. He has an amazing farm and even more amazing birds.

Hey all, i was out on the farm this weekend and thought i would share a bird i saw with very unusual colour. Here is the little guy. Although the neck looks black, it is actually a very dark blue. He carries white and some form of red/brown. The colour is actually quite striking in person, possibly coming out of a combination of Columbian and Blue, along with some form of red/brown. If we could clear out the brown it may be a very nice new colour :D There were also some new summer arrivals. a baby meerkat (one of five) The proud parents And a baby Blesbok (small antelope)
Very pretty Roo:) And really neat that you get to be around those other animals. We have nothing like that around here. I can't wait for spring and babies!!!

Preparing for spring and making plans for new three new small coops. Do you think 3'x4' coops plus an 8'x8' run for each would be adequate for keeping 1-4 adult bantam cochins in? Trying to make a place for extra cockerels or if I want to set up trios or quads. I'd probably also use them for older chicks.

Sounds just fine to me for bantam Cochins.

very nice...you are right..the colors could be very interesting. I LOVE MEERKATS....don't think the homeowners would let me have some in my backyard.

Very interesting color and not divert the thread. But do all meerkats let you handle them, or have these ones been tamed?

my breeding pens are 4x8 with a house inside that, raised off the ground (2x4) and is fine for 1 roo and 4 girls. larger would be nice tho.
