It's hard to see the combs in the pics. Cochin combs should be medium sized - not too big, not too small; 4 - 6 points; not wavy or lopsided; no side sprigs or offshoots. If you scroll back thru a few pages on this thread, you should see some good examples.

cool...I really love the cochins. I have several breeds just for eggs...but want to start breeding to standard just one breed. my goal is to have just one perfect roo in what ever breed. then I can have what ever hens for all the eggs to eat. does that sound 'sound'

Cochins are a fantastic breed, whether you choose Bantam or Large Fowl. If you are serious about breeding to the Standard, you should first check out the Cochins International website below. Then, depending on whether or not you choose Bantam or Large, you should invest in either the APA Standard or the ABA Standard. In addition to the Breed Standards, you can then learn of the Standards for the different Color Varieties. You should be able to purchase either one for under $30 - well worth the money.

When I was growing up, we just had them for eggs and meat. I use to show animals when I was growing up. I always wanted to again, but love mutts for dogs and cats. So my next choice is chickens and fowl in general. I love turkeys and sebastapol geese. Those will have to wait. I want to show the chickens...just need to decide which. Thanks for all the info. Soon will have to hunt for hatching eggs or chicks. thanks again
