I posted here a couple of days ago the complete list of all recognized Cochin varieties - for both Bantam and Large Fowl. There are so many beautiful color varieties that have declining populations - most probably, I assume, because breeding for correct Type AND Plumage can be such a challenge.
So here's my 2011 Breeders' Challenge to everyone - adopt a new (to you!) Cochin Color Variety! Whether its Silver Pencilled, Lemon Blue, Brown Red, Buff Columbian or Birchen - just add ONE more variety to your flock. Heck, part of the challenge will probably be finding good stock to start with!!
If you already have one of the "endangered" varieties in your flock - your challenge may be to not give up on it.
And for everyone who doesn't have the time, space or resources to add another variety, your job may be to lend moral support, breeding experience, genetics experience, and the like to everyone else. You might even be able to help track down some starter stock for someone else.
