Would you suggest incorperating BBS into your mottleds, or just breed mottled to mottled. Please Post more pictures of you mottleds.

It really depends on what colors you want. If you just breed the mottleds to each other you will only get blacks. if you breed blue x blue you will get all three colors. I don't have any recent pics of my two latest mottleds from last summer but they are looking very good. My cockerel is going to show well, but he will have too much white as an adult. They get more white as they age.
here is the same hen that I posted before but as a pullet (notice the difference in color)

if I remember, I'll get some new pics of the young birds and post them

I just LOVE them! So breeding mottled to mottled isnt like Splash to Splash where they just get diluted. So I could really only have Mottleds and I would be Genetically fine. I really like your Mottleds it shows that you spend a lot of time with them.

Question:

Has anyone ever heard of Cochins with the blue/green egg gene???

There is someone selling bantam Cochins on ebay who has Cochins that lay green eggs. I am wondering if anyone on BYC has any more info on this....

yes the mottled does fine with breeding just that color. the blue and splash will dilute over time, that's where the blacks come in. here's a pic that I found that's a little newer of the young birds (they are the male and female together on the left side) it's amazing the difference in colors on siblings though.
the blue mottled hen and the mottled hen that's almost black were full sisters although they had a solid blue daddy.
*edited to add the blue did have mottled in his background

I raise all three colors and the genes are related. It is the andalusian blue. You can show all 3 colors but the blue and splash are not recognized and they would be in the aov class.
this is one of my blue mottleds. she has decent coloring. the mottling is supposed to be a v shape on the tip of every 2-3 feathers depending on where it is on the body.

I agree! Thanks for sharing pictures. I love my Cochins and can never see too many pictures. Thanks for the info. too. I've never heard just how the pattern "should " be.
