Thanks. Picknic (picture editor) is also very useful, and I still toss most photos. LOL There were several adult blacks for sale in the of BYC chickens area. I don't know their quality, but maybe you can find one there.

What about a nice black Cochin girlfriend for the rooster you intend to keep? They seem to be more common, and often in much better quality.

Yes, definitely thinking that may be the route to go and hope for some phenomenal offspring to work with for the next generation.

Now finding that knock out black hen/pullet that's not going to break my paypal account.

The Self-blue/Lavender Cochin thread has great info. about Lavender genetics and ect.

I have three Lavender pullets and 2 cockerels but their type really needs work. I just got a black pair to improve type but I am no where Cochinman's progress. He has some truely top rate Blacks to work with.

That Blue Pullet is very nice. Its hard to find a good Blue Female with god wings and type like that. She could have a little bit better color, more lacing in her feathers instead of a solid dark blue. But other than that small thing, she is gorgeous! All of them are great looking birds with good type, the Mottled and Splash males are very nice as well.

Heather, my very first thought was "Get in Line!"

I know Tom and a few others are working very hard to bring them back, but as with most diligent breeders, they don't have enough of them yet at the point that they would consider them saleable to the public. The hen he posted a couple of weeks ago was one of the best I've seen in a long time.

The one thing at this point that I think is important is what breeding program you will be using her in. That could make a big difference in securing one from a good breeder. If you want one for a BC breeding program, you may most probably need to wait. BUT, if you want one to use in a MF breeding program or the like, I think your chances may be better. Hopefully that makes sense - do you need the "genes"?

Conversely, if you want a BC for a BC breeding program, be sure to ask about the parental lineage when you find one. There are a lot out there that look like BC's, but are out of MF breeding programs.

I've been told a BC would be the best for me to improve the lacing in my GL's - I think I'm going to try one more generation with what I have, and then start agressively looking for a BC.

Besides Tom, I know Matt McCammon is also working on them. On our 2011 Breeder's Directory, wildwoodcochins listed BC's.

I am just starting out in BC's. I have 3 very nice hens at this time. I lost my roo a few months ago and recently bought a MF X BC roo. He's colored very nice and I am hoping he will produce nice babies once muted down with the hens a little~

Anyway, hopefully a good start to a Buff Columbian Line. Don't know why they are so darned hard to find?? I'll list chicks as soon as available!
