Your birds are gorgeous~ Thanks for the info, I have not had any problems as of yet, 100 % hatch so I guess I'll play it by ear. Or...fluffy butt.
One more question, anybody have suggestions to stop a hen from becoming broody?

Wire bottomed cage suspended above the ground with chain or something that makes it unstable so it sways back and forth a bit when they move around.

If I do not trim/pluck or AI my hatch rate would be around 10% or less. I have tried and can assure you that it helps fertility greatly. I can not speak for all birds but mine need assistance to have a high percentage hatch rate..

I too HAVE to pluck my Black Rooster I bought at the Ohio Nationals.. Wasnt getting ANY fertile eggs so just keep plucking more and more on both him and his mate and Im finally getting fertile eggs from them.. they are barred bummed now tho

now showing them for a while which sucks cause he won 1st in Cocks and a RV.. Ahh well if I want chicks I will do it.

what would i get if i cross my blue rooster to the splash hens

i was told the splash x splash just makes the diluted splashes an i dnt want that
so what will blue to splash make blue an more splashes

Statistically you should see 50% Blue and 50% Splash. However, the Blues will most likely be too light. With Blue you are dealing with dilution genetics, and splash is taking it one step further. Blue X Blue usually yields the best colored Blues (50%) but you'll still have varying shades in any matchup you do involving Blue Cochins. No one that I know of that breeds exhibition quality Blues uses a Blue X Splash breeding to produce quality Blues. I am talking Cochins. I can't speak for any other breed except Andalusians which I also raise, and use Blue X Blue breeding exclusively. I don't even keep the Black and Splash chicks. They get culled out of the incubator unless I have someone that I know wants them.

May be a dumb question, but this is the first year I'll be working with a Black x Blue cross - of which I'll only want the Blues. Just how difficult is it (for a novice) to tell the Blue from Black "out of the incubator"?

i was so excited about getting some gold lace cochins but my local feed store will not order bantam. i can't have 30 and that is the minimum order online. how do i go about getting these beauties? i am a poultry novice

That last pullet is just gorgeous! Instantly fell in love just seeing this pic. That would be an awesome color to have standarized. All of your birds are very nice to be honest. Speaking of Judy Gantt, I actually talked to her this past weekend about some White Frizzles and she was trying to sale me some Mottled Frizzles and some other birds she said she had to many of, lol. If anyone is interested in some good Mottled birds I would get in touch with her.
