You won't have much of problem telling them apart. The Blacks will be Black and yellow and the Blues will be Blue (gray) and yellow and lots of times look like they have mascara around their eyes. Any of the blues that are so dark they look like Blacks would be too dark as adults usually anyway. and if there's any doubt you can wait a couple weeks and you'll be able to tell from wing feathers.

Thanx!!!

I was just given a black bantam roo... I know my hen isn't that great bc she is hatchery quality, but what do you all think about the new roo?? His feet feathering could be better, but he was living in a run that was literally flooded and could have been mistaken for a pig pen... so I'm thinking they were burnt off by the mud??

Here is the roo:

Hey guys, I know this might be a long shot but I'm hoping to add 1-3 adult Cochin hens to my flock, specifically for use as broodies.

I don't care about confirmation or color or anything, as long as they're healthy and prone to broodiness. I'm near Bloomington, Indiana if anyone here happens to know of anyone nearby looking to re-home a bird or two. I don't wanna buy 25 chicks and it's pretty difficult to just find a few adults... & I'm wanting full size though, not Bantam. Thanks for any help!

Wire bottomed cage suspended above the ground with chain or something that makes it unstable so it sways back and forth a bit when they move around.

I put a light right on them 24/7. Seemed to work pretty good the last couple times.

Please keep in mind that evaluating a bird from photos is not ideal. So generally speaking, I note the following...
1. He's pretty young
2. He appears narrow in overall width (side to side)
3. He stands taller in the front than in the back. Not balanced. Could be the fact he didn't want his picture taken. You want his eye to be level with the top of his cushion. When they are nervous they tend to stand way too tall.
4. He could use more chest. Related to the way he's standing in the photos. So he could either really use more chest or because he's standing so tall, he's losing the fullness of chest you want.
5. He appears to be a little too leggy, again, he's only 8 months old so will still fill out some.
6. I'd like to see more cushion and a little more length to the back.
7. He has a decent head, comb and good eye color.

Thanks! That's what I needed to hear. When he's relaxed and walking around outside, he doesn't carry his head that high, and I've never seen him look as leggy as he does in that one particular picture. It is sure hard to get a good picture of a chicken, isn't it! As he matures, will he get broader in width? I thought a shorter back was better. So he needs to have a little break between his neck and tail? Does a cushion and chest continue to fill out as a bird gets older?

The past year or so I have been on the hunt for some quality White Frizzle Cochin Bantams, and I am finding it increasingly harder to find anyone who breeds them at all. When I had birds for show and such my frizzles were my favorite, specially my Whites. But now that I am able to have birds again and start showing, I have yet to find any birds available. My goal is to breed Self Blue frizzles if I can find any decent Black Frizzles as well. Its pretty hard to find any good quality frizzles of any variety now adays. Just curious as to where all the Cochin Frizzle lovers have gone?

Was curious as well about if anyone knew where to get any Red Cochin Bantams, frizzle or smooth? This is a variety I am very interested in working with to make them as good quality as possible. I cant find any anywhere, and I really dont want to start with hatchery stock.
