All such beautiful birds! My local Co Op is getting Blue Cochins in a couple of weeks. I've already asked my neighbor who works there to hold back at least 3 for me. I can't wait!

I saw a couple of pages back some of you were talking about feather sexing and I wondered if this applied to frizzle cochins. I just got these three frizzle bantam cochins - 3 to 5 days old - and maybe you can tell me what you think:

Buff (or red?) frizzle - Pullet? (because of tail tufts and longer primary feather development)

White frizzle #1 - Pullet? (because of tail tufts and longer primary feather development)

White frizzle #2 - Cockeral? (no tail yet and shorter primary feathers at this age)

Thanks for looking!

I was recently made aware that it is not possible to feather sex slow feathering breeds... that feather sexing could only apply to rapid feathering breeds. So, I cannot say for sure. But, if I were to guess, I'd say you are correct. This may not work with all cochins but it's been very accurate for me.

I did try the feather-sexing on the recent bantam cochins I hatched - they say you have about the first 4 days to do it. I absolutely had two distinct different sets of primaries and coverts. Yes, only time will tell. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed - because I really liked the ratio I saw!! (3F/1M)

The first 2, per the feather-sexing, are both females. One has virtually no evidence of a comb, but the other has a very clear and distinct comb. And now, at 2-1/2 weeks, they both have the same exact quick tail growth, which, as Erin notes, should also be a good indication of females.

The second 2 are only today a week old, and per the feather sexing, I have 1F/1M. So I'll watch their tale growth in another week and a half and see how the growth rate compares to the first two.

Anyone know what I would get with a blue roo crossed with a silver laced hen?

There are two silver laced hens in my area and I really want to get them but dont know the genetics toss on this one.
