Cochin Thread!!!

Hello everyone,
Would anyone on this thread be interested in a Bantam Buff Barred Cochin rooster? I am probably going to sell him because his girl friend Sally was murdered by a hawk and now I don't have anyone to breed him to. He also seems rather depressed these days. If anyone is interested in this beautiful rooster I will PM. them pictures. His name is Harry and he is a year old.
Have a great day, Cochin.

I am located in Western MI. It would be local pick up only and I also want to make sure he is going to a good home.

Oooohh Poor Baby! I understand-they really do seem to pair up and have a connection don't they???

I am oh so excited! I just got about 8-10 eggs from Vilamil Farms that I won in a BYC Auction (there were 52 total eggs of various kinds) There are Silver, Golds and various others and I am so excted by this hatch - well okay, it's just incubation time but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I have one Blue??? Standard Cochin that is just becoming amazaing! He is still just about ten weeks but I was looking at him/her this afternoon and his leg feathering is coming in so well he looks like he's wearing little cowboy chaps with sheepskin!

They are nice and full and the posture is excellent - I had two of them that would have made a pair I think but the one just up and died on me suddenly one day a couple weeks ago. I'm very sad but have hopes for this group. Samsom and Sophie my two Bantam Cochins are doing just fine with the babies! I can't believe for as feisty as Sammy is how gentle he is with the other babies that are various breeds. Sophie is a bit less indulgent and will give them a sharp quick peck to get them out of her way. All is well though and everyone seems quite happy!

So I finally got to play chicken photographer today. Got out my long lens and took these.

I had told the lady I bought them from that the ones foot was hurt and she offered to exchange it. I said yes but really thought this morning I might just keep her cause the foot looked a little better. But this afternoon I decided I better exchange her. Well when I was showing the lady the chickens foot, I realized something...the foot was only hanging on by one tendon!

Now I had looked and looked at her foot at least 10 times over the last couple of days. The first night I had her she had a foot bath and all kind of yuck came off it but it wasn't hanging. But I guess the foot bath loosed up all the guck that was keeping the foot from flopping. There was no blood or anything, it was all dried and mostly healed. In the last photo you can see how it still looks fairly normal. (When I took that photo I didn't realize it was hanging!) I would say that 90% of her leg/ankle was detached (I had been focused more on her toes).

Poor thing, it was no wonder she was so skinny and couldn't get around. I can't believe she survived this injury.
