Yes we did talk...I remember your place...you have beautiful property!!! Your coop pens are very nice as well. I think that is a super way to utilize space and accomodate different breeds or separate colors without having to build bunches of coops like we did. My husband just got done building our third little coop. I have to give him a rest now before I have him build me a small little barn/stall for a goat and lamb! Poor guy had no way of knowing that I would turn farm girl on him, hehe!

Hi Craig!

Wanted to let you know that I DO finally have 1 Columbian Cochin egg developing and due in 2 weeks, from Tom's birds. I have another batch set to go in on Thursday.

Oh - and I've never had anything hatch earlier than Day 20 either, Skysfalling. In fact, my Cochin eggs ALWAYS pip on Day 20, hatch on Day 21. I have 2 Brinsea Ocatgon 20 incubators and haven't adjusted the temperature on either one of them in nearly 2 years - that's how perfect and stable they hold the temp! Hope that helps!

Are you looking for Bantam or LF? We have several BYC members on the Cochin Breeder's Directory; the link is in my sig line.

large fowl. Please email me if anybody has very good lines of the black cochins. Thanx :)

Thanks Coopa!

I don't know who will be who yet since I just have a couple young ones I'm hoping to hatch! I did have 2 Ptdge and 2 Gold Laced that hatched but ended up not making past week 2. No matter how much coddling I gave them it broke my heart and I actually shed a few tears and a small tantrum about the last. Sigh, I HATE LOOSING BABIES! My Blue St Cochin is about 10 weeks now and he/she is just doing great - are they a bit more delicate sometimes or am I just missing something? Medicated Food, Duramyacin in the water when I hear sneezles, warm brooder, cleaned out every other day or three since the brooder is good sized, little to no drafts in that room.

I have some SL and GL Cochins along with some "mystery" Cochin eggs in my incubator - probably about 10-12 in all that I got off one of the BYC Auctions from Vilamil Farms - they came with a cornucopia of other breeds since I won a total of 52 eggs. Very excited though. I will definitely consider working on the Silver since you said there needs to be more focus on them. I will also probably start a pen in the next six months to separate out my colors and pals when I finally get serious. Probably not a good idea to leave poor Samson and Sophie the Bantam Cochins in with the Standard Cochins once they get bit enough to push them around.

Thanks Okie! I hope your babies come around - they really seem to be eating a lot of grit - is that true? I wonder if maybe they have a vitamin or mineral deficiency - I know ours love grit and oyster shells but they like their food a lot too! Maybe they just needed more grit too???

Kayla I know this a poultry site but CONGRATULATIONS on your engagement!! I currently have over 2 dozen good candled eggs out of Tom's Columbians in my incubator at this time. I have some on the ground already. Setting more every Saturday. Still hoping for over 100 and up to 150 Columbians this year. Will take a while at 0-4 eggs a day.
