Cochin Thread!!!

We have 3 week old blue and black cochins.....we have a few other breeds.....in our little crew as well. Since the cochins will be our biggest breed, we were wondering as there is some variation with recommendations in the books we have, what size nest boxes do you all have for your cochins?????

Thanks for your help!!!!

Very Nice Coopa! You must be very proud - love the feet!

My Sophie girl is now in full brood mode - about two days ago she started just mostly sitting on the nest and yesterday evening she popped off when I offered her a treat. Went outside grabbed some outside the coop treats came right back in and sat on the nest. Tonight/late afternoon when I went to check on everyone she was on the nest and gave mer seriouse stink eye and grumblings. Put a few BR and one penciled mix I have under her - didn't like it but she was okay. The penciled came in the coop to check things out and you would have thought there was going to be a rumble - mouth open, growling, deep sqwaking! very funny for a 11 month old hen. She does not have a lot of leg feathering but Sammy my mottled has a lot. She is pure black and he is black and white mottle with very nice heavy feathering - any idea? Will they split half black and some will come out mottled? Very curious....

Thanks and I am sooo excited! My BRs are new to the game too this year and they sit on the nest for a while and then abandon it, but we know the eggs are fertile (trust me, we have busy roos) and we have even taken several and hatched them out ourselves.

My poor little Blue Cochin baby is just looking sad with all the rain we've had and the coop is muddy now. His little pantaloons were wet today so I made sure to move the brooder light I have on for the cool nights here still so that all the babies can get under it without being attacked or scared off my the new mama to be. I have a bunch more cochins that go into lockdown on Monday and I am waaaay too excited

Blue/Red Cochins, some Silvers, Blues, Golds and partridges that will be locked down around May 5th - a little staggering going on with all the eggs.

Very Very excited though! Hoping they all hatch or that the hatch rate is good - I love the cochins - far too cute walking around in their pantaloons!

I am very excited and of course want to know. I have 2 gold laced, 1 silver laced, 1birchen, 2 red, 1 buff. a very beautiful brooder bouquet. they are so sweet and snoopy and virgorus. I bought these eggs from a BYC member I'm very happy so far.

Hi everyone. I'm looking for some LF Cochin pullets in Blue, Barred, Splash or Black. I've had a really hard time finding them in a situation where shipping isnt through the roof. So something local or pick-up would be best. I'm planning to show them so they need to be show stock, please. I also like over fluffed and frizzles. Thanks! (Please PM me if you have anything, thanks!)

Hi, I am also looking for some LF cochins for my son . He wants to show LFcochins for the fair this year in July . I know it is kinda late but, I have been getting birds that I have wanted him to have and like. Now he just turned 14 he is on to my tricking him into what I think he should have instead of what he wants to show for 4h. We did pick up his first pair of large cochins last week and they have him hooked, but they are feb. hatch so they will be too young for the fair.He got a nice lemon blue pullet and a brown red cockerel, a frizzle blue from a byc member in Mn. He don't even realize what a project he picked up but when it is time I will explain it to him. So any help would be great. I have been looking for a week or so but not much luck so far.
Thanks for your time,Jason
