Cochin Thread!!!

I don't know anything about color genetics in poultry, but as I have looked around other threads, I've seen Cocopop Seramas and buff-laced varieties of other birds - niiiiiiiiiice colors. Would it be possible to develop coco and buff-laced varieties in Cochins, and what color crosses would it take?

I also raise Angora and Mini Rex rabbits. There you have Black and Chocolate - Blue is the dilute of Black and Lilac is the dilute of Chocolate - and it goes from there. Is it similar in chickens?

p.s. What does SQ mean?

thats the thing that I love about serama, the wild colors. I was working on blue laced red for a bit but ended up making kaleidoscope instead. you can make all kinds of colors as long as you know the genetic combination to use. one would have to find some cochins that were a chocolate or dun based color to use for breeding though

Hello! I just have a question. I got a chick a couple days ago that is half Ameraucana and half some kind of Cochin. Very pretty little thing. The guy I got it from pronounced Cochin completely different than I do in my head.

Soo....how exactly IS Cochin pronounced? Silly question, but I'm curious. Thanks!!

Co-shin
Co-chin
Coach-in

Not a silly question at all. I've heard it all 3 different ways, and there's probably a 4th way I'm missing. I used to pronounce it Co-shin, but in the past couple of years, I switched to Co-chin. And I'm still not sure I have it right!
