Cochin Thread!!!

Here's the results from my first bator hatch....I hatched out 2 eggs from my beginning flock, my perty black mottle frizzle is the roo and my blue girl is mom...judging by the wing feathers coming in both are frizzles (thinking one will be black and the other maybe a black mottled....I thought I was going to have all solid blues for a while) any thoughts on those two chicks for grow out colors, based on their chick down patterns?

I also hatched out 4 from shipped eggs, 3 from lemon blue eggs and 1 lil golden mille fleur cochin

I love my Cochins and breed for what I like. Not what someone else thinks they should look like. I have never been a fan of showing but DH and DD love to show their animals. I find it hilarious that some folks get so riled up when a judge picks another over theirs. Whats the big deal? You are the one that has to feed it and care for it, not some judge.

I am outside day in and day out sweating and swearing over back breaking chores because I love the birds and projects I am working on. I sure as the dickens do not do it for anyone else. Not to impress a judge or a group of people.
I would rather fill my coops with birds I love rather than what someone else tells me I should breed for. I am very fortunate that others love what I produce. I am more than willing to breed the way others do if it suits me to do so. For instance, I love the Mille Fleur Cochin project but that is only one faucet of the bantam Cochins I love so much. The off shoots are Calicos and though not a recognized color, I love them and to me that is all that is important. to have others that share my interest is a big plus!

And yes, AOV is a breed. It is the breed you are showing, just not a recognized color yet.

I say this in the nicest possible way because we all love Cochins. We may not agree on what makes one the best but that doesn't matter. Love what you have in your coop! You sure do sleep better at night that way.

a real keeper. Did she come from your stock? A feed store? Shipped eggs you hatched? Very pleasing to look at but what are your goals for her since your looking for opinions? That can be the defining factor in many cases.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. We purchased her as a chick. As far as if she is from a hatchery or not I have no clue

I would really like to breed and hopefully show Bantam Cochins at some point. I was trying to decide if I should get a nice rooster to go with her or get a SQ pair from a breeder. Either way she's a keeper. When she was younger a raccoon tried to pull her thru the wire and her whole leg was broken. She couldn't do anything with it. We nursed her back to health and she learned to use her leg again. It was a long long road but well worth it
