Cochin Thread!!!

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

Mr. Ree :

I have been telling you guys that I was going to get pics of the chicks I hatched earlier this year. I didnt get very many, and I took these over a week ago and these guys look different now but you will get an idea of what I hatched. These birds are between 8-12 weeks old. I hatched 11 so some of the birds are pictured more than once. Hope you guys enjoy. (Sorry ahead of time for all the pics. I cant help but go a little crazy, lol.)

Edit: Double posted pic.

Look at all the snowballs!

I don't know much about frizzles. I'm not a big fan, so I never learned. Do both smooth and frizzle show up from the same parents? It could be a big surprise to get a smooth hen, and have her produce frizzle chicks! Is that possible?

If you go back a few pages through this post then there are a few posts explaining it. But yes, you can get frizzle chicks from a smooth hen, but only if the hen is bred over a frizzle male. You cant take two smooth birds bred from frizzles and get frizzled chicks. Both birds carry the recessive gene for frizzling, thus they will only produce chicks with two recessive genes.

Charlie! You have blues! OMG, how pretty!
I get an occasional blue Mottled from my black Mottled breeding pen. They are super easy to sell but I am hanging onto a few to go with my Frizzle Cochin roo.

I candled the 13 eggs under my broody last night......had 6 viable and growing! These are from Cowboy the splash mottled rooster x 3 beautiful black mottled hens.

Have another batch of 8 eggs or so to set....have another 2 broodies out in the main cochin coop, so going to candle their eggs and then swap out the bad ones for these new ones.

Going to set up the incubator this weekend too

last winter my cochins did not lay, so this year I am going to hatch all i can before they stop for winter....

Hi Amy, thank you. Yes, I have a few. 5 pullets and 1 cockerel. I hatched them from some eggs I bought from Fay at Frizzed Feathers Farm. A very nice lady. I also hatched 1 black mottled pullet and 2 black cockerels. They are really shaping up. Here are a few more pictures.
