Cochin Thread!!!

Took a couple pics today of the up-an-coming coop I have. Its getting there, slowly but surely. Here it is about half way done, I have another row of cages that go on top of the ones on the right side of the coop. Also have more pens to build along the right side of the coop, starting where the cages that are there now end. Going to put another row on top of the pens along the left side as well and it will be finished. There is an exsisting frame that one of those cages used to sit on that is being turned into a brooder box for chicks. For now this is what it looks like.

Wow Casey! Those are great I'm sooo jealous!!

Birds are looking great too :)

Very nice set up. I have something in the planning stages similar to yours. I have a few questions.
How much gap will you have between the floor pens on the left and the pens you install above them?
Under the cages to the right...of what material is the droppings tray made?

Edit to add.Not only are your birds gorgeous, but I'm jealous you are so far along on your pen project!

Thanx for sharing pics of your set-up, Casey, It looks very workable and manageable. I'm always looking for more ideas - I hope others will post pictures of their set-ups.

I have one buff cochin bantam hen, I have know idea how old she is. I've had her 2 months now but she seems to be a slow developer because her wattles and comb just don't seem to get any bigger. She isn't laying yet.

Does anyone know how old she might be.
She is my daughters favourite chicken and comes running when i call out "Girls, Girls"
To me, she looks about 5.4 months old.

I made this one a few years ago. Cages are 24" x 24" x24" and the birds are on 1" x 1" pvc coated wire. Works well, has clean out drawers.

what's the purpose of caging them like that?
i'm having a hard enough time wrapping my head around a small pen (8x3') for a pair or trio. they love free ranging so much i wonder if i'm going to have to give in now and then and let them wander a bit... LOL

Boys or girls???
This is the first time I've raised cochins, & I'm not sure if my guesses are correct. I'm thinking the barred one is a roo & the white is a pullet. Am I correct?
They're a little over 4 weeks old.
