Cochin Thread!!!

MJ -
I too hatched a few columbian looking males from my Mille Fleur pen this past Winter. All three show some gold leakage on their saddles. Out of the same hatch I also got a red with some black feather tips. I suspect these reverts just are the genetic results of the mix of genes being used to fix the MFs. My are of adequate type so Ill be keeping them to breed in if necessary in the future.

My 8 mo. roo already has a home to go to. I'll raise these two white chicks to see if they have good type. Who knows? Growing out Mille Fleurs is a wild ride. Sure is different than my Self-blue project. I sure am learning alot with both.

Today I am getting a nice very nice LF Buff roo for my LF hen, Peaches. He is a birthday present. DH sure knows the keys to my heart.

Hi,

I havent been on here much lately because I am in a big remodelling project at home and it is crunch time. But I wanted to say hi to everyone.

I too have a very hard time posting the pictures and the words on the new set up. The pictures always seem to go in the opposite order I post them and the words just go where ever they want to no matter how hard I try to change them.

I pick him up tonight. I'll get some pics soon.

a quick note for those having picture problems... once you get the pictures loaded into the editor, you can click and drag them where they're supposed to be. make sure you put them on their own line, or they do mess up the text formatting too. (quick hint... type out everything first, put the cursor on the line you want it to go on, and add it. but don't move the mouse or cursor until th pic is loaded or it'll jump to where the mouse/cursor is.)

and to make this pertinent to the thread, i picked up a NICE pair today. white roo with a white frizzled hen (bantams). i like the roo way more than the hen, but we'll see how she feathers out when she's done moulting (she's covered in pin feathers).

they need some serious help tho, he's got a 'turdball' under his vent about the size of an egg (scissors will help that) and she's got gunk crusted over several toes. hoping she doesn't lose the toenails. i've had that happen with other birds i've gotten before.

how do you bathe these guys? i'm thinking her feet are going to have to soak to get the stuff off easily, but want to know what to do to get it done properly. i'd rather get them bathed tonight, so if anyone has a suggestion you can PM me, or post here if it would benefit anyone else that might not know?

here's a pic of the 2. not in their permanent home yet, it's not done. i wasn't planning on bringing home more birds, and the pen i'm building was going to be for my black/self blue's... so these 2 will be in the brooder (no heat) for a few days, but at least it's bigger than the travel cage. went to a swap, and sold 3 ee chicks (roos) turned around and handed the $ to the person parked next to me for the pair. (i'd call that a fair trade.

then i get to start building MORE breeding pens. LOL

don't really want the frizzle, but out of the pair i'll get some non-frizzled chicks to keep.

I fill up the kitchen sinks with warm water, put some Dawn dishwashing liquid in one, vinegar in the other. Plop the bird in, make sure they can feel the bottom, and work on the topside while the feet are soaking. Might not be a bad idea to wash them with flea and tick shampoo. I use an old toothbrush or soft nail brush on their feet, but the poo softens up quickly. Rinse with sink sprayer, finish up in vinegar water. Wrap the bird in an old towel. I hold them on my lap in the towel and use the blow dryer on them while we both watch TV. They LOVE the blow dryer, just keep it low so it doesn't burn.

Very easy to follow bathing instructions anyone can use! Any particular TV programs? . . . I'm thinking maybe Animal Planet?
