Cochin Thread!!!

My dad named her Frodo

His fav movie is The Lord Of The Rings!

She is blue mottled. I think she is show quality. I will have to check later.....

I picked up a few chicks yesterday and posted them on the "what breed am I thread". The first poster thinks they are all bantam Cochins, so now I'm curious what colors they might be since I didn't think there were Cochin colors. I know very little about Cochins since I just picked up chicks of this breed this year.
Can anyone identify colors?

This one has a faint barring type pattern, even on it's foot feathers.

This one I thought might be a porcelain D'Uccle, but I guess not?

i might question that there doesn't seem to be much feathering on the middle toes, and the one at the bottom has pretty stiff hock feathers that i haven't noticed much on my cochins... but i might be wrong. it could jsut be the angle of the pic or something?

You pointed out exactly what I was thinking about them, that the middle toes didn't seem to have much feathering. They do have evidence of feathering, but most of the feathers seem to be on the other toe. That would make them not Cochins, correct?

Someone else confirmed that the bottom one is a Porcelain D'Uccle with vulture hocks, so now I'm just wondering about the top 3 and the black one that I couldn't get a non-blurry photo of.

Thanks for your help!

Certain varieties of Cochins look " hockey" at stages of their developement but do not mature with vulture hocks. Some varieties have more or less feathering on their toes. Good to watch for but too early to cull for in my opinion.

Thanks for the explanation Craig. Any idea of what color/pattern those top 3 may be?

Another question... Could a complete layman understand the SOP for chickens? I know that none of my chickens are show quality because they are all hatchery, but I'd like to get an idea of good vs bad. My concern is that since I know so little, I may not understand the terminology used or be able to figure out what they are talking about. Not saying that I'm an idiot or anything, but some things you need a working knowledge of before you can understand what "perfect" is.

I'm going to guess the first two may be Golden Laced, the next possibly Buff and I don't know how it could happen, but the last one looks like a Self-blue. You said that they are hatchery, so that is why I'm guessing at the colors since I know they won't be the best examples, but I'm really surprised at the Self-blue. It can't be Blue because it is lacking lacing and the darker head.
Just a wild guess mind you.
