I would love to have a golden laced bantam, like now, if I could find one. They are so hard to find.I know of only a few working on them in Bantam or LF. Decent stock to start with is so scarce. Even hatchery quality stock seems to be limited. Silver Laced is in the same state of neglect. I think people would have them and enjoy them if they could find them.

Hey guys, you'll never guess what I have! A 6 day old chick that is practicing his baby crow!![]()
I have my itty bitty babies in my living room.............yes you heard me, it's true, anyway I had just come out of the bedroom this AM and was checking the kids and no more than stepped away and I heard the distinctive baby crow that we all enjoy hearing from our young boys as they first try out their vocal cords, only this was a VERY tiny crow. At first I thought it must be from one of the adolescents outside, but that didn't compute as I hadn't even been out to let them out. So, I stood there for a few minutes and heard it several more times. I began to track it down and sure enough it was a little teeny weeny Birchen baby boy just crowing/screeching his little head off.![]()
I've never seen such a thing, of course maybe some of you that have been breeding longer than me may have, but it's a first for me. I've seen 'um at 3 or 4 wks, but NEVER THIS little.
Just thought I'd share my morning laugh. Ahhhh, how can anyone be in a bad mood around chickens.
Are you a member of Cochins International? If so look in the breeders directory which will have all varieties listed and who has them in both bantam and Large fowl. I find the directory is worth the membership fee. I have used it 2 times in the last month.I am doing research on the golden laced Cochin's and would like to start a project on perfecting them. We now have the facility completed to accommodate these beautiful birds. I'd like to start working with golden laced and silver laced too. Any help is greatly appreciated pointing me in the right direction of top breeders, breeders sites, etc. I am very serious about this. This little bird here who is by no means perfect and came from a hatchery is the reason I want and need help in perfecting them. He's perfect to me because he is the sweetest little bird of our whole flock.
So, please anyone who can! I need info and help, thanks.

i had a nice pair, with very clear lacing, but needed the coop space so sold them. i regretted it as soon as i got home from the swap that day, so set every egg i had in hopes that one (or more) were fertile and pure silver laced... one hatched (a cockerel) and someone up to purchase dorkings made an offer on him i couldn't pass up. LOL they'd seen the pair before i sold them and gave me $15 for a 2 week old cochin chick. since he was the only one to hatch, i let him go. might see about getting some more eggs from the breeder they came from down the road. thnk she's got gold laced too, but silver laced for sure.I know of only a few working on them in Bantam or LF. Decent stock to start with is so scarce. Even hatchery quality stock seems to be limited. Silver Laced is in the same state of neglect. I think people would have them and enjoy them if they could find them.

I was thinking the same thing GailLOL! Nancy, it sounds like you're gonna have a real little trouble maker on your hands! Certainly an alpha male! The girls better watch out! But you're right - nothing beats starting the day like a good cup of coffee and some chicks in the brooder!
