Cochin Thread!!!

I was wondering who is raising Partridge Bantam Cochins. I lost all but 1 of my males last summer and hatched at least 10 pullets and not 1 cockerel. Any one have more good males than they need?

Hey Craig
I have a nice rooster that I got from Jamie Matts about 1 1/2 years ago He has served his purpose here and its time for him to go to a really good home If things work right his pic should come up

Yay it worked Contact me for the details about getting him if your interested

Was out snapping a few pics today of some sale birds since the weather was decent. Managed to get a decent shot of one of the White cockerels I have available. This isnt the greatest picture, by any means but it shows you what he looks like. My cell takes really yellow-ish colored pics sometimes, especially of anything white.

Hi everyone!

Every winter my cochin roosters suffer frostbite on their combs. One of them has a perfectly striaght comb because all of the teeth have fallen off from frostbite. I can't figure out how to prevent it, some say vaseline, but that never really works. So this year, I'm trying to make 'comb protectors'. Here's a quick prototype. The material needs to be a bit tighter and more strechy. The rooster in the pictures is Tom Jr. and he doesn't mind wearing it, but when he pecks at the dirt, it often falls off which is why the material should fit around his comb better. What do you think? Do any of you have other ways to prevent frostbite? Heating the barn isn't an option...

He's beautiful! If only I lived closer to you...

Top 3 pictures are of the Silver Penciled pair that got killed in predator attack in Aug. They were the pair all of my SP young are out of. My young were hatched very late July to about Sept 1. All of the older SP chicks were killed in the same predator attack as the breeder pair. The lower pictures are of younger SP birds. I am going to keep 2 trios for breeding. I have enough that I can let 1 or 2 pairs go to those who would like to raise this variety.
