Cochin Thread!!!

well, it's interesting... my mille fleur pen has 2 blue partridge girls split to mille, with my mille roo. i had one baby hatch out that I thought looked more partridge than the others, was hoping for another hen, to add to my partridge pen...

at hatch, she started out a very dark brownish, with pale creamy belly and kind of greyish wings... the one way in the back peeking over the others. sorry can't see her wings.

as she started to feather in, she got more partridgey looking, and didn't have any white markings at all...
sorry no pics of this stage, my camera broke...

but then at about 6 weeks old, i noticed a few white feathers coming in... (darkest chick, to the immediate right of the dorking baby)
sorry, got a lot of butt shots. LOL

about a week later, i noticed her head getting a LOT more white...

well, she's going on 3 months old now, and i did a doubletake today when i realized which pullet that one was...
couldn't get her to pose at all, so i brought her in for a few... this pic doesn't do her justice at all. might try again outside tomorrow, if she and the weather will cooperate.

My beloved Cochin got killed last night.

She was my best bird too. I was hoping to breed her, and was going to soon. So much for that. So, now I'm Cochin-less.

Meet my first Cochin..Eloise!!! So happy..

Can anyone fill me in on the coloring on her beak? Is that something I should stay away from? I will eventually want to do some light breeding and showing, for myself and a few young cousions..and eventually my son.
