Cochin Thread!!!

Quote: I believe I see a dark blue feathers on the wing of this guy in the third picture. I have had cochins in varying shades of blue who have one or two dark feathers. An older master cochin breeder told me they were splash. I was skeptical. But... As they age and molt they feather out with more splash variations.

Hmmm... interesting. I will take a photo today and see what you think. It was labeled as a blue cochin, but I am not a cochin expert. This is actually my first one! I was hoping for a girl but everyone thinks it might be a cockerel. I am interested to see what everyone thinks now as he/she is 11 weeks. I will post later...

Hey Guys!

I just joined the site! My name is Kate and I have four cochins (and three chinchillas!!!) who are a year old in June! My roo, Reuben (partridge, he is in my profile picture) and my three girls Queenie (silver lace, also in profile picture), Buffles (buff) and GeeGee (black).

Buffles and GeeGee just hatched two batches of healthy babies! Of course they are all intermixed between the three girls eggs so we have a large variety going on.

I was wondering if I could get some help figuring out what colors they are!

I have a few chicks that are dark yellow with brown/red stripes down their neck and back AND some brown babies with yellow stripes down their back also. Then, I have some yellow babies with grey splotched fuzz randomly over their body. Any ideas? I have ONE picture below of my holding a yellow with brown stripes baby. But I am a student and away from my chickens so I can't post more for a few weeks. I am trying to figure this out for my mom, haha.

Thanks you guys! :)

Mostly they are not going to be anything approaching a recognized variety. Most chicks with the chipmonk stripes on them are a silver penciled or Partridge. I think you will have some beautiful interesting birds . They probably will not fit in any variety description but will look great running around. Enjoy

Hello all I am new to the breed! I have 2 chicks on white & 1 splash...they are adorable.
Any suggestions on how to tell the sex.of the chicks? They are just 2 weeks old.

Ok, so I finally got updated pics of my cochin - since I am new to cochins, maybe you guys can comment on whether it's actually a blue or splash?? Also, last time I posted, everyone thought it was a boy - still think so???
He/she is now 11 weeks old - name: Monsoon (it will fit boy or girl at least!)
