i have a 5 month old pullet now who is broody. She did start laying early, then went broody on the stroke of 5 months.
Must be a cochin thing huh lol. Are you going to break her or let her sit?

I took the plastic egg out. She wasn't happy about it.She is such a good girl I can reach right in and pick her up with out too much fuss. It is pretty much impossible to keep her out of the boxes, as my other 8 hens use them to lay everyday. Unless I bring her in the house or put her in the silkie coop. She has been with my blue pair of silkies before, but its been a couple months. She hasn't been with the other silkie girls. She isn't aggressive at all. She may do okay with them. I would rather not have to take her out and have her have to re-establish herself into the flock later. I am afraid if I leave her to brood without eggs, she might brood for too long. With eggs it will just be for the 21 days, if she stops early I have an incubator, or I can bring the chicks inside after hatch if I have too. I would rather her not be broody, but I just don't know how I can break her with my setup right now. Its my fault I didnt anticipate a broody so soon.

for that matter, I've given broodies chicks up to a week old in the middle of the night, and just make sure there's food and water available to the chick the next morning since momma may not wander for a day or so after the chick is given. some like to get to know the kids before they take them for a walk.
Build a small wire mesh run, takes about half an hour. Put her in there for 2-3 days with food and water. generally being away from their "nest" will hlp breaking them.
If you are determined to let her hatch then can you not buy her a day old chick from somewhere close and put it under her at night? Once again a separate run will be ideal for this.
Good luck, i know what you are going through, i had one broody on friday, and now have four thanks to a hot weekend.
