Cochin Thread!!!

Hi all,

Thought i would share a quick update on the little "broiler" like cochin i hatched a few weeks ago. This chick is from a partridge pair.

It came out pure yellow, and i was convinced that is was white,

See here next to a normal partridge male

Here are the pair now.

The darker one is male and appears as a normal partridge should. The light coloured pullet is coming out in a heavily diluted partridge, with mottling.
Apologies for the blurriness, they are impossible to keep still.

So i have another mottled partridge it appears, who is heavily diluted.

I can honestly see now why no one in this country (South Africa) breeds good quality partridge, they really are such a mixed bag. This is making me more determined to get them right though

It has become abundantly clear that breeding patterned birds is a labor of love. You have my sympathy/empathy.

I was wondering how hard barred cochins hard to find, also i have 2 that are 5 months old should i be able to tell the sex they are bigger then my bantam cochin/silkie mix, there from show quality lines and i been thinking about getting them, i want to get a new breed im thinking either LF Cochin or LF brahma

Thank you kindly!! Is it a cochin show or all chickens? Thank you!!

It is open to all breeds of chcikens.Probably some ducks adn geese there too. Sometimes some for sale. You never know what you will see at a show. You have to go with what you like not what the judges pick in the long run because we have to work with them and enjoy them everyday.
