Yes cochins are common here. Buff being the most common. Blue is very rare. Black and whites also rare to get show class. A few people I know have the only show class blues here. I am seeking to buy chicks from them God willing.

Hi there. I may have the opportunity to acquire a buff-colored Cochin pullet (full size). She's just adorable, but I'm wondering before I commit what I should expect in terms of egg production. I've read everything online from "they lay as much as an Orpington" to "they make great pets but you'll be lucky if you ever get an egg." Could some of you more experienced Cochin enthusiasts tell me what your experience has been in terms of eggs from full size hens? Thanks!

I have a 6 year old LF cochin hen still laying 2 - 3 eggs a week. I also have a 2 year old LF cochin hen currently laying about 5 eggs per week. It really depends on the hen. Some of mine are great layers, others, not so much.

it would also depend if she's from breeder lines or hatchery stock, I think... hatchery stock are selected based on those that lay the best, not on conformation, while those that are selected for conformation (show) may not lay quite as well. but 'lucky to ever get an egg' is a bit far fetched, since those lines would probably die out rather quickly IMO...
