I am thinking the following regarding the genetics of your mystery cockerel. I'd say that the base is on wheaten - could be eWH/eWH or eWh/eb. Add to that possibly blue to account for the ground color. Next, likely Columbian for the hackle and tail pattern. And lastly, I'd say at least one dose of autosomal red. He is somewhat similar to some of a cockerel from my blue silver wheaten (with red) project I'm tinkering with.

Hi Dave, i agree with you on the wheaten assumption, it is the same conclusion we came to. It is odd though because here they are extremely rare, as are Columbians. I have seen a few more of that flock, and some almost look like what the Australians call "furnace". eWh with melanizers, would be my best guess, similar to this bird that was posted on a discussion at the coop forum.
Thanks for the input, it is always appreciated. I must admit i love coming across these oddities, it just shows that even though cochin bantams colours are rare hear, they do still have a lot of genes to play with.
