Awww...congrats! Can't wait to see picturesWell Jewel has another fuzz ball this morning and I can hear another one steadily working away at it's egg under her. I will get pictures of the new chick later when it warms up, the chicks are not to thrilled with the cooler morning temps.
Give it a little sugar water, put some Vaseline on its butt, and cross your fingers. Pretty color, I hope it makes it.
Duckie is a good, good girl! You can trust her with a blind chicken, what a sweetieI absolutely adore Cochins! Gosh they are so cute, VERY smart, and such talkers! My favorite Bantam red cochin Murphy recently passed away. She was the sweetest thing and kept all of the other hens in line. She was also the perfect Mama hen.
I've also got a Giant Cochin roo named Buster, who just so happens to be blind. When he was a chick I thought he was just chill and maybe slightly neuratic, but over time we found he couldn't see! He has some perception of shadows and light, and he can sense things really well, but he still has a little trouble with confidence so he has a small pen that he lives in with his Ameracuana girlfriend Duckie. We keep his food and water in the exact same place so he always knows exactly where everything in his pen is and Duckie follows him around clucking to make him feel safe.![]()
So yeah, I love Cochins!!!!
Yes she is! She and the blind one were originally put together because she had a tumor under her wing, but now its gone and she's the healthiest chicken I've got! But Buster (the blind roo) would be heartbroken if we put her back in the main yard, so they're buddies for life.Duckie is a good, good girl!
