Cochin Thread!!!

I definitely will. I need to take 3 week pics of Xena, my little White Cochin. She looks like a little angel right now, with her big girl wing feathers and tail. I love her!
Awww, beautiful! My Bantam white cochin roo reminds me of an angel too! He's a frizzle

when breeding frizzles, you should always breed a smooth to a frizzle. the gene is dominant, and when a bird carries 2 copies of the gene, the feathers are very poor quality and break extremely easy, resulting in a mostly bald chicken.

so breeding a frizzle to a smooth, you'll get 50/50 smooth to frizzle chicks. so it is always possible that the cockerel is a smooth, which would be preferable if you intend to breed them.

flockofbantams, yes I have a chick that has been sick. Cotton Ball is still much smaller then the others(½ as big) but she looks like she is growing a little again and I haven't noticed that 'click' in her chest when she breaths. She will be 8 weeks old on Wednesday. Sorry to hear about those poor chickies from the market! I hate that people treat animals that way! I would for sure send Animal Control after them! How is Rainbow doing? That cut healing up? You could try giving her boiled egg and black oil sunflower seeds if your not already. They both have a lot of protein in them that could help her feathers grow back. (My sister is visiting from Canada so I was having a sleepover at my moms house with her :p btw that was a lot of reading to catch up on lol.)
I hadn't thought about the egg bout I will do that. I was going to pick up some black oil sunflower seeds and meal worms when I went into town tomorrow. Until then I'm feeding her start and grow for the extra protein. She loves it. She is doing really well. The gash has no infection and is healing over. I can up to her area now and she doesn't flee in terror. So she is calming down and relaxing. I'm glad ur chick is still hanging in there and seems to be getting better!!!

My little "male" Red Frizzle Cochin, not so frizzie.

My little "female" Red Frizzle Cochin, getting frizzie.

Other side of my little "female" Red Frizzle Cochin.

Pullet on left, cockerel on right, why such a difference in size? I had her a little further back than him but in person you can see a much larger difference in their sizes.

Not sure but believe males are smaller/grow slower and feather in slower than females. Anyone more experienced have any thoughts?
