Cochin Thread!!!

@SilkiesForEver They ARE beauties! Are they both females? What age are they?
@Dianne88 Congratulations! They are adorable!! I hope you have the sexes you wamt & can't wait to see the 3rd Chicky : ).
Thank you, I've got 2 with pips now and 2 more rockin and Rollin! Hope I have a few surprises in the morning!

Thanks, what do you look for when sexing Cochin chicks?

In Gold Laced, or Partridge or Mille Fluer i look at the eye stripe on day old chickens, once you get used to it you can see the differences in day old chicks if they are on a certain base gene. It is a trick the Brahma and Wyandotte breeders use here, and it works well.

Females have a thick stripe going off the eye at 1 day old, males have a less defined stripe.

The first picture is of 2013 hatch Columbians running around.
the 2nd picture is of one of this year pens of growing young birds. 9 more pens I am feeding right now. I
Last picture is of the SL breeding pen. Yes there is a partridge pullet in there but she is not of laying age and somehow got along with these the best. The GL hens are in the pen so I can get more SL pullets to hatch by using sex linked breeding. With this breeding combination I will get SL pullets and GL males out of the same breeding.
