Cochin Thread!!!

Anyone know what it takes to make a golden laced cochin? I have a buff cochin roo and a golden laced wyandotte hen. Also does anyone know how productive a layer they are?

Cinder is 6 weeks or so now. What do you all think, girl or boy? I'm leaning toward girl, because my other cochins at 6 weeks were very red in the comb for boys and had bigger wattles, but I wanted to see what you all thought.

Cinder is their first baby. I'm so excited she is a splash!

I have some blue cochin pullets that are 12 weeks that look just like the first picture.

Hi, I was taking a look at my 12 little Cochin chicks that hatched earlier this week and I noticed that the orange/buff colored ones don't have feathers on their middle toe and all the others do. Is this just a genetic fluke, maybe a poor quality?? Any thoughts?

When my birds were chicks a few of them didn't have feathers on their middle toe. As they have aged the toe feathers came in. Not as long and pretty as some of the others but they still have them.

This is Eyeliner at 2 weeks old (Left) and Eyeliner today at 13 weeks old (Right). (He is a Large Fowl)

I wouldn't worry too much about it. They will most likely grow in when they get older.

You should put some pictures up of them. I love seeing the little BABIES!!

I just breed 2 Gold Laced together and get more Gold Laced. If you are talking LF there are not many around. If you are talking Bantam they can be found if you look. My GL bantams are 2nd to my Columbians as far as laying but much better than my Parridge or Blacks.

I have 6 Golden Lace but the one in the second pic has a darker chest.

I have 2 of the whitish/ maybe splash chicks I miss counted my hatch thinking I had 12 Cochin but only have 10, one was a mystery chick???? And the other was an OE. Also mixed in are 2 EE's. Any black chick pictured is one of these and one really light buff color.

Any help with color ID and sexing ( I should be looking for more feather development at this point I believe) would be great! Thanks

I would say yes those are Splash chicks. Other then the black on its beak it looks the same as mine did at 1 week old.


And I want to say those are Silver Laced not Gold Laced because of the gray stripes on their back but that close up of that first one you posted does have a very brown head, so your most likely right about those ones. With my chicks the ones with the gray stripes on their back all turned out Silver Laced and a few of them did have a light brown on the top of their head. My Gold Laced chicks were just a very dark brown almost black in color with a lighter brown on the top of their head. Silver, Gold, and Splash are the only colors I have raised so I'm not familiar with how other color chicks are suppose to look. As for sexing, I could tell who was a little boy by the time they were 3 weeks old. By 3 weeks the boys should have a bit taller and darker comb then the girls.
Your chicks are very cute and I love that Black EE! You'll need to keep us updated on how they feather out!
