Cochin Thread!!!

Wow, you have an exceptional breeder. Anyone who allows you to return and cockerel and take for chicks in exchange deserves a commendation. Usually when you buy chicks, you take your chances, but you're stuck with what you get. Then it's on you to figure out what to do with a male.
She's a wonderful lady "Meme's Poultry and Quail Sales" she has a facebook page. I had traded a hen for eggs and I kept 2 cochin and 1 OE out of the hatch and gave her back the rest. In return she gave me more eggs. When she came to pick up the red cochin I gave her the chicks from the second set of eggs and I kept 4. If any turn out to be cockerels she will rehome them for me. We both just want them to go to good homes. I believe she ships eggs and chicks, check out her facebook page

Tammaclean congrats on the babies!!! I have to wait till next spring for more Cochins, so sad. But I hope to expand and get a handful of large fowl blues. My hubby says I am obsessed with the blue fowl, well ok and so???? The color of my Bluebell is awesome!! She reminds me of a thunder cloud with all the different shades of gray.
Black Bantam Cochin thank you for the insight as well. I know she could take awhile to mature for laying but her sister Blackie started a few weeks ago but sadly passed away due to an egg breaking before she got to lay it. I have one LF Light Brahma who also hasn't started laying so I am praying they both do so soon and have no problems. I think my Hubby knows that my LF are my favorites and he has been warned of my desire for more, Giants included.so second coop and run expansion next year.Yeah chickens!!!!

I hope not! My Pickles will have to get a new home then

no roos allowed here.
I have 7 boys here. (I'm trying to find a home for 5 of them. Hubby said they have 3 more weeks to find a home or they go to freezer camp.

) I'm not sure if they are allowed or not but I have a kennel in my shed that I put the boys in to sleep in at night and I let them out about mid morning and then all their crowing is done and no one has to hear them and I get to have my beautiful guys

. They get to free roam my yard with the girls the rest of the day.

Can someone tell me what color blue this little one is? Is she just a regular blue or what? Her wing feathers are a light blue with some darker blue speckles on some, and her tail and pin feathers are coming in a darker blue.
She looks like my self blue (lavender) if that's what it is then it will lighten up !

Here is one of my Blue Cochin girls.

Not a great pic, but here are a few more of my Blue Cochins and the black one was supposed to be blue.
