This will be my first post on BYC so I hope I do it right. Sorry if this is not completely relevant . My wife and I just wanted to tell you how beautiful your flock of fluffy feather foots is. My mother raised both standard and bantam cochins when I was a youngster but my wife and I have only had standard cochins , until recently. We love our standard barred cochin hens though they don't lay very well because they are the sweetest girls and the best mother hens on earth in our opinion. My wife was at the feed store a few weeks ago and they were selling the last of their chicks at a bargain. I remember how excited my wife was when she called saying " They have chicks on sale and they have some cochins ! Can we have some ? Can we ? Huh ? Can we ? " Well , what was I to do but say yes. Right away upon seeing my wifes purchase I noticed the two cochins seemed smallish but my wife told me that the lady at the feed store assured her they were standard cochins so .... Well , now , a few weeks later and sadly the little cochin roo passed on for unexplained reasons but the little "standard buff cochin" hen has indeed turned out to be NOT a standard. She is however a very spunky , friendly and curious little bantam cochin that we absolutely adore. It was a happy accident so to say and now we are contemplating getting more bantam cochins in the future. We'll have to see how well she gets along with our large fowl flock but if her attitude and personality are indicative of the breed I think they will do fine.
I do have one question if I may. Do the bantam cochins share the same traits as the standards ?
