Cochin Thread!!!

I forgot to tell y'all this yesterday but..!.!
I'm getting a black cockerel and a blue pullet from Jamie Matt's!!

I'm so excited!! He has amazing Cochins as you may know! They get here next week Thursday or Friday

This is not directed toward anyone, because most times, we can't see our cochins feet in pictures. I've been looking! But I recently found out that my bantam blue frizzle cock must not be full cochin because his feet and legs aren't yellow. They are kinda whiteish, dusky slaty color. Breed standard calls for yellow. I couldn't find any mention of it here, so I thought I'd bring it up, in case anyone wants to check their cochins' feet/legs. :)

So they should always be yellow no matter the feather color? Ok, I will be lifting some feet this week. Cochin colors are still so confusing. Just because there are so many. Don't get me wrong, I like the variety, but I have no idea what I am looking for!

I'm pretty sure that it's just the bottom of their feet are yellow and the rest is supposed to be a blue/black color.. Otherwise I would've been docked at the show and definitely wouldn't have won Grand champion breed poultry or pullet

This little blue Cochin was seriously malnourished when I picked her up. She is on her way to full recovery now and I am wondering if she will ever catch up to her normal size? I was told she was 2 months old. I have 5 chicks that same age which make make up my entire flick and she looks like a 4 week old (at best)! Poor girl...

Any advice for a speedy recovery, other than major protein and chick boost, which I am already doing?

I am also wondering, how can I tell if she is a bantam Cochin or standard size? I was told she was a standard, but she was SO small that I am concerned. She is definitely taller now - which is a good sign, for me. I have only had her for a week and a half.

I asked a friend to look up blue bantams specifically, as I don't have the SOP book yet, and it calls for yellow in males, dusky yellow acceptable in females, but yellow preferred. But judges may be more lenient on it. I don't know. That's why I brought it up. :idunno

Could be bantam but I guess you will just have to grow her a little to find out for sure. She's very pretty!

I've had good success with nutridrench, a few drops a day, directly from the dropper, followed by clear water. Or mixed with the water. Good stuff!

Good luck and keep us posted on her please :)

My new LF Cochin Cockerel to replace my Stumpy for breeding. So far he is getting settled in but the girls are not sure of him yet. Can not get over how tall he is! Not use to a male that can stand up fully.

Here he is next to my rotten girl. She is in her 2nd week of molt, so she looks rough and smaller than normal.

When I get my Cochins from Jamie I will look. Maybe Bantam and LF are different
