Cochin Thread!!!

Nah, I think all Cochins are sweet. The smaller size of the Bantams just makes them more manageable - and they eat less.

I mean, the roos can be little turds just like with any other breed, but I specifically decided to hatch a bunch of Bantam Cochins this year because my 7 and 10 year-old sisters can handle them and show them in 4-H so easily.

Oh, yeah, I agree with Annarie.
Bantam Cochins are awesome. I have both standard and bantam and can pet and love on both but the bantams I can pick up and cuddle without any problems except for my Mottled roo. He is not a love bug like all the others.
I have about 45 adult Bantam Cochins right now and they are mostly all really sweet. The chicks are usually super easy to handle and have major personality even when very young. I have about 30 in my brooders and about another 100 eggs set right now. They are just so cute and sweet!
The only one out of all of my bantams is that silly old Mottled roo but he was grown when I got him and maybe didn't have the chance all my others do. He got his name honestly here.....Rascal.

Well I'm happy to hear about the little guys having nice personalities (with the odd exception of course

) and kind of excited if my new girls are bantams because they sure are adorable! They've progressed to eating treats in my presence, as long as I leave them in a dish and am outside their pen. But at least I can be inside the chicken coop now while they eat! Baby steps, I guess.

I forgot to take pictures this morning when the chickens were all together but tonight I'll take some so you all can see.

Thanks!

Ok! Here are 3 of the 4 3 week old "barred" cochin bantams I picked up today.

Cochin 3 No signs of barring at all. This one is the least fledged of all 4.

The fourth one shows very slight signs of barring. I will get a picture of that one later.

Let me know what you think!!!

Thanks!!

At only 3 weeks old, those ALL look like boys to me. They're pretty though! I almost bought a Barred hen locally a few months ago, but someone beat me to her.

I'm working on it Annarie!! I got annoyed this weekend and built a bigger coop, so I have to take pics of the birds AND the new coop!

I will try to get some tonight. The more I look at them though, the less happy I am with their markings.

I'll post up some pics and we will critique them.
